Getting a contract signed in Sammy

Send the contract on a job to your client, they read and sign it on their phone or computer, then you sign it too. Sammy keeps the signed copy on the job and emails it to everyone. No printing, scanning or DocuSign.

This is part of Sammy Pro.

Before you start#

The contract needs to be on the job. Open the job, find Contract and tap Attach contract. It can be a PDF, a Word document or a photo. When Sammy asks whether the client has signed it, tap Not yet.

Send it#

  1. On the job, under Contract, tap Send for signing.
  2. Check who it's going to. Sammy picks the client's email. To send it to someone else, tap the name and choose another contact, or Someone else… and type their details.
  3. Change the message if you like.
  4. Check what they'll sign. If your contract is a Word file or a photo, Sammy turns it into a PDF first. Tap Check it to see exactly what your client will see.
  5. Tap Send to and their name.

Your client gets an email from your business with a Review and sign button.

Two owners? Add every signer#

If the home is jointly owned, or the contract needs more than one person's signature, everyone can sign the same contract from their own email.

  1. Before you send, tap Add another signer under the first name.
  2. Pick another of the client's contacts, or Someone else… and type their name and email. You can add up to six people.
  3. Send as usual. The button reads Send to John and Lisa.

Each person gets their own email and their own link. They can sign in any order, and each sees the other's signature appear on the contract once it's made. The job shows a line for each person: whether they've opened it, and whether they've signed. Copy link and Remind work per person.

You counter-sign once everyone has signed. If any one of them declines, the contract is declined for all of them, and you can send it again once it's sorted out.

Two people can share an email address. They'll get two emails, each saying whose link it is.

Show them where to sign#

You can mark the spots on the contract where each of you signs, like the "Sign here" stickers on a paper contract. It's optional: if you skip it, the signatures go on a page at the end of the contract.

  1. Before you send, under Where they sign, tap Add signature boxes. The contract opens on its last page, where the signing lines usually are.
  2. Choose whose box you're placing: the client's name (or each signer's first name when there's more than one), or You for yours.
  3. On a computer, drag across the contract to draw a box over the signing line, or click to drop one. On a phone, tap where the box should go.
  4. Drag a box to move it. Drag its corner to make it bigger or smaller. Tap the ✕ to remove it.
  5. Tap Done, then send as usual.

Each signer sees their own boxes marked Sign here, and everyone else's marked with that person's name. Tapping one opens the signing form, and their one signature goes in all of their boxes. When you counter-sign, Sammy tells you which page your signature goes on.

In the signed copy, each signature sits in its box on the contract, with the name and date underneath. The page at the end still lists every signature, as the record of who signed and when.

You can't change the boxes, or the signers, once the contract is sent. To change either, cancel signing and send it again.

While you wait#

The job shows who you sent it to and whether they've opened it. From there you can:

  • Copy link to text it to them yourself
  • Resend email (or Remind, when there's more than one signer) if it's gone missing
  • Cancel signing if you need to change something (every link stops working)

If you replace or remove the contract, or mark the job contracted, while your client still has the link, Sammy checks with you first and then cancels the link.

What your client sees#

Your client reads the whole contract on the page, then taps Review and sign. They add their name (and their role if they're signing for a company), draw their signature or type it, and tick to confirm they've read the contract and agree to it.

Once they've signed, the page shows their signature back to them with the date and time. It also appears in their boxes on the contract, or, if you didn't add boxes, on a Signatures page after the last page. When there's more than one signer, the page names everyone who's signing and tells them who still needs to sign. When you've signed too, the page shows the signed copy instead.

They can also decline and tell you why. If they do, you'll get a notification with their reason, and you can send it again once you've sorted it out.

Sign it yourself#

When your client signs, you'll get a notification: "Lisa Patterson signed the contract for JN-0012". With more than one signer you hear once, when the last of them has signed: "John Patterson and Lisa Patterson signed the contract for JN-0012".

  1. Open the job. The contract says who signed and when, and shows their signatures.
  2. Tap Counter-sign.
  3. Check your name, draw or type your signature, and tick the box.
  4. Tap Sign contract.

The job moves to Contracted. A few seconds later the signed copy appears under Contract, with every signature in its box (if you added them) and a page at the end listing them all.

The signed copy#

  • Your client gets it by email, and can download it from the same link. When there's more than one signer, each of them gets it.
  • You get it by email too. Your copy also shows the IP address and browser each person signed from, which is useful if a signature is ever questioned. Open it any time from the ⋯ menu next to the contract with Open audit copy.
  • The copy on the job is the one without the IP addresses, so it's the one to share.

Good to know#

  • A contract can only be out for signing once at a time. Cancel the first one to send another.
  • Forgot a second owner? Cancel signing and send it again to both. The first person signs again.
  • If Sammy can't turn your file into a PDF, save it as a PDF yourself and replace it.
  • Contracts need to be under 19 MB to send for signing.
  • Signing on paper still works: under Contract, tap Attach the signed copy, or Mark as contracted if you don't have the copy yet.
